Distilled at Caroni in 1998 and bottled by Cadenhead’s in November 2019, this 21-year-old Trinidad rum was released at a formidable 61.6% ABV.

Only 240 bottles were produced, making this an exceptionally scarce independent bottling from one of the most sought-after closed rum distilleries in the world.

Cadenhead’s bottled it with the intensity intact. The official notes describe cinnamon, toffee and cloves on the nose, followed by banana flambé, mango and pineapple, before a long finish of tobacco leaf, menthol sweets and gentle wood smoke.

At full strength, this is a forceful and concentrated Caroni rather than a polished commercial style. A few drops of water may open the fruit and spice, but it should be approached slowly. Its appeal lies equally in the liquid and the provenance: one of just 240 opportunities to own this particular cask selection.
