A rare vintage rhum agricole from Martinique, distilled in 1989 and bottled at 45% ABV.

Unlike molasses-based rum, rhum agricole is distilled from fresh sugarcane juice, giving it a more distinctive sense of origin and a drier, more structured character. J. Bally became particularly associated with vintage-dated agricole, making bottlings such as this 1989 increasingly sought after by collectors of old Martinique rum.

The profile is mature and quietly complex rather than overtly sweet. Recorded tasting notes point toward seasoned oak, biscuit, caramel, earthy tones, fruit and spice. The long ageing has softened the spirit while preserving the dry, cane-led identity expected from old agricole.

The distinctive triangular bottle further marks it out as a period bottling. Older J. Bally vintages are now encountered far less frequently in ordinary retail, particularly in this condition.
